The Lodges

Farakunku (a Mandinka word meaning ‘land of the rice growers’) is an area of vegetable farms and small dwelling compounds situated just south of the village of Tujereng and east of the coast road.

Each main room has a king-size four poster bed (with mosquito netting) and a large sitting area. There is a well-appointed wet room with adjustable shower, toilet and basin. There is a large, lockable, walk-in wardrobe for your clothes and valuables – the key remains with you until you leave.

Interiors

The rooms are well ventilated with a ceiling fan. There are plenty of windows and all have security bars and mosquito netting. Each octagonal eco-lodge has been built to the highest standards, inside and out, using locally sourced materials. Every lodge has its own supply of solar electricity and solar hot water. We regret that hairdryers cannot be used – but the sun is always there!
Lodges are cleaned daily, and towels and linen changed regularly. All laundry is done by hand locally. Personal clothing can be laundered for you at a small charge per item.

All our lodges are named after their nearest tree or shrub, and each has its own private garden with terrace, sunbeds and a hammock. The lodges are positioned to provide both sun and shelter during the day.

Bird bowls are positioned so that you can watch the drinking antics of our brightly coloured exotic bird visitors without even having to go out to spot them.

The Grounds

There are cockle shell driveways , raised paths leading to each lodge, an abundance of flowering plants in garden areas, a large plunge pool with paved (non-slip) open area for sunbathing, a shady open air restaurant terrace all set amongst a collection of indigenous trees.

The site is 33 x 55sq metres and situated just south of the village of Tujereng and east of the coast road in the countryside area known as Farakunku
There is an attractive covered well and a circular seat around the ‘meeting tree’.
