The Gambia
Heather and Moses, your Anglo/Gambian hosts, offer a very warm welcome to Farakunku. Set on Gambia’s unspoilt south coast, on the outskirts of Tujereng Village, we provide secluded, deluxe accommodation for discerning travellers who seek easy-going, stylish, affordable comfort in a peaceful rural setting. Found 45 minutes from the airport, (collection service available) and just 2 kilometres from the sea Farakunku is a delightful, eco-friendly holiday destination for couples and single travellers. We have 4 large, airy, octagonal lodges, each one has its own private sun terrace and secluded seating, surrounded by lovely gardens. A plunge pool with submerged seats for cooling off is situated in one corner of the gardens… ideal for that evening glass of wine or a daytime cold beer. Relax on sun-beds, or laze in hammocks under trees.
On site we have an open-sided residents’ restaurant, offering a buffet breakfast, daytime drinks and snacks, and a set 3-course evening menu. We also have free Wi-Fi.
We are extremely proud that all of our energy is eco-friendly. We have a fully integrated solar-powered system that pumps water, provides a complete lighting solution, hot water, fans, fridges and freezers to allow the entire site to be run from eco-solutions without the need for noisy generators.
Just a few steps away, there is our studio, gallery and workshop. We also have a private tree and bird sanctuary, that offers our guests exclusive access to several thatched bird observatories with comfortable seating, a bird pool, and walkways between specimen indigenous trees and information on their medicinal and legendary properties. A growing number of recorded bird species have now made this their habitat and this is our way of protecting and improving our environment.
We were really happy to meet Global Birding Fair organiser Tim Appleton at this summer's event - Moses was happy to play the Djembe and shared his skills with willing participants
